While replacing the bumper with a used fully assembled upper and lower would have been easy as can be, putting a new upper together with my old lower is provi ng to be a ton of work.
The new bumper came with all the necessary brackets ... But no hardware. Getting the old hardware off, predictably, is taking a lot of time.
Update, got the upper bumper assembled and installed by the time the girls needed to go do bed. Ran out of shits to give after that. Maybe I’ll install the urethane lower bumper tomorrow. Depends on how I feel in the morning. Might just send it for a couple months until spring comes.
I also replaced the passenger side airbag sensor while I was in there, which took care of that issue.

Is that one where you should Change the light bulbs while you’re in there?

I’m doing the shocks on the Ranger tomorrow morning. I’ve been hitting all of the bolts/studs with penetrating (giggity) oil off and on all week. I hope none of them give me any shit.

What kind of sanding belt would I want if i needed to grind down some aluminum?

Shockingly, no. The cops were called out, and they just did an information exchange report. I wonder if it was because the damage was so minimal to both cars?

As far as I know, any sanding belt will do. Don't quote me on that though.

Wow, nothing about that looks like fun. You have a higher pain tolerance than I. My hat is off to you.

As long as the fasteners cooperate, this is an easy job. I did it several times on my ‘94 Mazda.

I am regretting not wri ting the reasonably sized check it would have taken for this to be somebody else’s problem, but I’m pot committed now. Oh well!

The fasteners rarely all cooperate in the rust belt though.

Many states have an estimated dollar threshold that must be met in order for it to be a reportable accident. Exchange forms don't count as a report.

Ah, that could be. I once had someone hit me in a parking lot, and the cops wouldn't take a report because it was under $3,000 in damage and on private property. Maybe there is a limit on public roads as well? I was definitely thrilled to not get a ticket. My insurance paid for the other guy's car. I didn't even make a claim on my truck, because all I needed was the new bumper.

Yep. My state is 2500 minimum. They finally bumped it up from 1500 since you can do 1500 in damage to a modern car very easily from a minor fender bender.
